Self Publishing

True self publishers assume all responsibility for all aspects of their book and keep 100% of the profit. They will form their own publishing company, obtain their book’s ISBN and Library of Congress number and copyright, and make decisions about editing, designing, size, price, and printing. They may use a variety of sales channels, including the Internet and other routes available to traditional publishers. Self publishers know from the beginning that they will be responsible for marketing, promotions, publicity, and the management of their own book sales, including shipping their books to wholesale and retail customers.

FDPC Supported Publishing

You may be a writer who has neither the time nor inclination to form your own publishing company in order to get your book in print. You may also like guidance in obtaining your ISBN and Library of Congress numbers and your copyright. While still maintaining control of your work, you may choose to have the support of Forest Dale Publishing Company in order to complete the publishing process. In this case, Forest Dale Publishing will transmit your book files to a "Print-on-Demand" printer, provide instructions for obtaining your book identification numbers and copyright, and help you arrange for your distribution and sales. Forest Dale Publishing Company does not assume the publishing rights of authors.

What is Print-on-Demand?

Computers and sophisticated software are revolutionizing the book publishing industry, opening up new opportunities for writers. No longer is it necessary for self publishers to print hundreds of books at once in order to sell and distribute them, an up-front investment few can afford. This digital technology that allows one book to be printed at a time, combined with efficient book distribution, is called "print-on-demand."

By using "print-on-demand" technology, book copies are created as they are sold and promptly shipped direct from the printer to the customer, wholesaler, or retailer. This allows authors to avoid the costs of maintaining a large inventory. Should you want to make a change in your book cover or text, a new file is simply uploaded to your printer. Book orders can be processed in two or three days. Since books are sold before they are printed, the printing costs are deducted from sales profits, and the author receives the difference. Consequently, once the book files are delivered to the printer, there are no further out-of-pocket expenses for the author.
